Nourishing Beauty Serum

I’ve been working on this concoction for quite some time now! I wanted to use it for several months to make sure it is as awesome as I think it is. Well, it is. This stuff is incredible. It does require a little bit of ordering, but the good news is that once you order all of it, you’re good for at least a year (maybe more!) of beauty serum goodness! This is a great recipe full of great base oils that are incredibly wonderful for skin health, and then you top it off with some incredible essential oils that will do amazing things for your face.

Why Do I Make My Own Personal Care Products

This is such an important question! It may seem overwhelming at first, but once you see the facts of the toxic ingredients in beauty and personal care products, you really can’t go back. Did you know that on average a woman uses over 5 POUNDS of chemicals from just make up each year?! Did you know that most of these products are estrogen mimickers and they directly disrupt your hormone balance? Did you know that most ingredients you’ll find in soaps, shampoo, lotions, and personal care products actually cause cancer? Check out this sheet that I took a picture of at my local CVS Drug Store two years ago. Yowza, friends. And let’s see…is anyone doing anything about this? Nope. Things KNOWN to cause cancer. Why the heck would I take that chance with my family?!

It’s Not As Hard As It Seems

It really isn’t. I’m not going to lie…it does take some time gathering resources in the beginning. But now, whenever I run out of bubble bath, lotion, beauty serum, foaming hand soap, or deodorant, I just whip up another batch. Most of these things take me less than 5 minutes, which is a whole lot less time than having to run to the store! And most of them are less than 5 ingredients, which I KNOW are not toxic for my family. It’s a total win-win.

Beauty Serum Prep

This beauty serum is super easy to make once you get everything ordered. If you know that your skin prefers jojoba or grapeseed oil, you are welcome to substitute one for the other, which would cut down on ingredients. I use this at night after washing my face, and I often use it in the morning to help “brighten” my skin. I’ve also used it when my face is particularly dry. I can use 4-5 drops at a time, since I have dryer skin, but you may only need 1-2 drops each application if your skin is on the oilier side.

First, you gather all your ingredients!

Second, you’re going to put your essential oils in. Make sure you’re not grabbing essential oils from any store! Quality varies IMMENSELY! To find out where to buy high quality oils, click HERE.

Third, you’re going to grab your funnel and some measuring spoons and put all the oils in the 1 oz bottle. It should fill it to just below the neck of the bottle.

Finally, put the top on and store in a cool cabinet or shelf.

Nourishing Beauty Serum Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon argan oil
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 1 teaspoon grapeseed oil
  • 1 teaspoon emu oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil
  • 10-15 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 5 drops geranium essential oil
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2-3 drops rose essential oil
  • 2 drops myrrh essential oil
  • 1 oz dropper bottle
  • 1 small funnel

Use anywhere from 2-5 drops before bed after washing your face. You can also use it in the morning to “brighten” your skin if feeling tired or your skin is dry!

Why did I used these ingredients?

I used a blend of base oils, because they are a great combination for any type of skin while providing nourishment and support for aging and dry skin. Lavender essential oil provides healing support. Frankincense is incredible for aging and dry skin. It helps with blemishes and sun spots, and it also decreases the appearance of pores as well as evens out skin tone. Myrrh is helpful for chapped skin and is full of antioxidants. Rose is incredible for skin health in pretty much every facet. A 5 ml bottle of rose essential oil is made from over 10,000 pounds of rose petals! They are powerful drops! And geranium essential oil is helpful for maintaining skin health.

Remember that not all essential oils are equal! After three years of research and using different companies, I landed with Young Living Essential Oils. I completely trust their purity, process, and transparency. You can find out more about them HERE. Enjoy your face serum and be sure to comment on how it works for you!
