As I’ve talked with friends about their kids going back to school, I’ve been shocked about how many kids have “zero” periods or “early start” classes.
What that means is that these kids are getting up while it’s still dark to get to school 5 days a week! With that much getting up early, it would be so important to amp up nutrition to help get them through the day.
My brain went into gear to think about healthy options for these kids in particular. What is something that would fill them up, give them good nutrition and taste good?
Here’s what I came up with!
A pre-made protein powder mix that can be warmed in a mug with water or milk for hot cocoa or sent in a shaker bottle for a cool easy to mix shake.
Recipe:
½ cup cacao powder
⅓ cup coconut sugar
½ cup collagen peptides
⅛ teaspoon sea salt
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
**You may want to add a little honey or sweetener for those who like a sweeter flavor!
Here are a few ways to use this powder:
Protein Shake
- 1 cup almond or coconut milk
- 1 banana
- 2 tablespoons ready-made protein powder
Hot Cocoa
- Warm 1 cup milk or water and add 1-2 tablespoons powder
Protein Shake on the go
- Add 2 tablespoons mix to 2 cups milk or water in a blender bottle and shake when ready to drink
